My notes: Google Project Management: Professional Certificate Course, Coursera
Project Management is the key to ensuring goals of any endeavor are met. Effective project management puts the organization's main objectives at the center and grants the manager the ability to control any element of the product lifecycle roadmap while navigating requirements, risks and stakeholders in a clear and organized fashion. PM is fractal, the same methods apply for projects big and small, however, there are specific elements that cater to specific types of projects. I’ve used PM techniques to manage projects throughout a 18+ career in new product development. The objectives of the majority of projects have been to develop new complex medical devices with relatively small but high performing R&D teams. I used a primarily linear waterfall approach supported by iterative agile methods to navigate with speed and the uncertainties of innovation.
To expand my PM skills I took the Google Project Management Course offered by Coursera. Why not learn from one of the world’s largest and impactful companies! The elements and concepts were not exactly new to me but it was rewarding to learn the specifics of processes they use to get so much done. Google and its employees did a great job developing the course content and the Coursera platform is exceptional for independent learning. I encourage anyone interested in project management to take the course.
Through the course I kept a Google Doc open to jot down notes that ended up being 366 pages of resources for all projects moving forward.
